ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The #14 California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated the Western Oregon Wolves 101-64 in the final game of the GNAC/CCAA Crossover at Nicholson Pavilion on Sunday morning.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 4-1 overall on the season.
The game started off with graduate student Giordan Williams (Carson, Calif.) driving it in for a layup and making an and-one to make the score 3-0. Williams had a strong first half, scoring 12 of his 17 and was one of two Coyotes to score in double figures in the first frame.
Defensively, senior Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) tallied a career-high three blocked shots, all in the first half as the team held Western Oregon to 11-for-28 shooting (39.3 percent).
The score was 42-36 at the half, and it was relatively close until the Coyotes broke it open midway through the second half.
Senior Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) scored 26 of his career-high 40 points in the second half on 13-for-18 (72.2 percent) shooting, including 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) from distance and 9-for-10 (90 percent) from the charity stripe. He is the first CSUSB Men's Basketball player to score at least 40 points since Tony Sanders scored 41 against Grand Canyon on February 22, 1996. He also tallied 10 rebounds to record the first double-double by a CSUSB Men's Basketball player this season.
While Western Oregon was able to go 21-for-25 (84 percent) from the free-throw line, it was not enough to match up with the Yotes, who shot 37-for-67 (55.2 percent) from the field and 9-for-22 (40.9 percent) from beyond the arc. CSUSB also dominated the glass, as they out-rebounded the Wolves 40-23, which is their largest rebounding margin in a game this season.
Next up, the Coyotes return to Southern California to face Biola on the road on Thursday. Tip-off in La Mirada is slated for 7:30 pm.
