Women's Basketball Bested by Dominican

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team fell 74-58 to Dominican University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Coussoulis Arena.

With the defeat, CSUSB drops to 1-3 overall on the young season.

CSUSB struggled for offense in the opening quarter, scoring only six points on 2-for-15 shooting to fall behind 17-6 at the end of one. Senior Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) outrebounded the Penguins by herself in the frame, with six boards to Dominican's five as a team.

Early in the second quarter, Dufresne became CSUSB's all-time career blocks leader when she recorded her 114th career block for the Coyotes. She would go on to lead the Yotes in scoring with six points in the period, but Dominican still narrowly outpaced the hosts by a margin of 22-21 to take a 39-27 advantage into the half.

Paisley Specht (Sacramento, Calif.) and Tarryn Ross (Irvine, Calif.) each hit third quarter threes for CSUSB, as the Coyotes outscored Dominican 15-13 to draw to within 10 at 52-42 after 30 minutes.

Dominican opened the fourth quarter on a 13-3 run over the course of just over six minutes to put the contest out of reach. The visitors would go on to outscore the Coyotes 22-16 in the quarter to finish off the 16-point victory.

Morris and senior Isabel Arango (Gardena, Calif.) each posted 10 points to lead the Coyotes offensively in the defeat. Morris added a game-high 11 boards to post the contest's only double-double, while Dufresne finished the day with eight points, 10 rebounds, and two rejections.

Next up for the Yotes, they will return to the court on Tuesday to take on Fresno Pacific University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
