LANGLEY, British Columbia - The #14 California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2024-25 season on Saturday, knocking off Simon Fraser University 72-59 at the Canadian Tip-Off Classic at the Langley Events Centre.
With the victory, CSUSB improves to 1-1 overall on the season.
In the first half, the Coyotes raced to an 18-6 lead after the first seven minutes led in part by senior Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) who went 4-for-4 with a pair of threes and a two steals. The offense had more flow from the jump, with CSUSB recording 11 assists on 17 made field goals.
The Yotes looked sharp in the first half defensively as well, forcing 10 Simon Fraser turnovers and limited the Red Leafs to 1-for-9 (11 percent) from beyond the arc. The visitors led by 18 at the break at 44-26.
Despite a slow shooting to start the second half, CSUSB settled in and cruised to the victory. The hosts never cut the deficit to less than 11 points in the second half. Guard Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) led the Coyotes with nine second half points to go along with three steals.
Tomorrow, the Yotes will wrap up their time in the Canadian Tip-Off Classic with a contest against Western Oregon. Tip-off is slated for 12:45 p.m.Â
