#11 Men's Basketball Takes Care of #6 Point Loma

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The #11 California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated #6 Point Loma Nazarene University 76-65 Saturday afternoon in a battle of the top two ranked teams in the West Region at Coussoulis Arena.

With the victory, CSUSB wins its sixth consecutive game and improves to 6-1 overall on the season.

Neither team gave an inch in the opening 20 minutes, as the teams went to the break knotted at 33-33. 

The Coyotes did not make a field goal until a Giordan Williams (Carson, Calif.) layup 5:22 into the half, but the Yotes would settle in after that. Trailing 16-13 with just under nine minutes remaining, Cal State San Bernardino went on a 12-2 run to take their biggest lead of the half at 25-18.

The Sea Lions responded with a 7-0 run of their own to knot the score, and the contest would go back and forth until the halftime horn. Williams led CSUSB with nine first half points, while Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) and Jordan Jones (Macon, Ga.) each had eight.

CSUSB controlled the play in the second half to help secure the key victory. The Yotes shot 6-for-12 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc in the half, and led by as many as 15 points just past midway through the half. The Sea Lions failed to make a three in the second half, going 0-12 in the period and just 2-for-21 (9.5 percent) for the game.

Williams finished the contest with 18 points to lead all players, while Jones poured in 16 points off the bench. Andrew Henderson dropped 13 points and a team-high eight boards, while Charlie Henderson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) and Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) each posted 11 points.

The Coyotes will be off until Wednesday, November 27, when they take on Concordia University Irvine at Coussoulis Arena. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
