SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team was bested by Cal State Dominguez Hills by a final score of 94-83 Saturday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Coussoulis Arena.
With the defeat, the Coyotes drop to 14-5 overall on the season and 9-4 in the CCAA.
San Bernardino opened the contest on a 10-0 run in the first four minutes to take command right from the jump. Senior Robby Robinson (San Diego, Calif.) capped the run with a lay-in, before Dominguez Hills finally got on the board with 14:35 showing on the clock.
The Toros did not go down quietly, quickly answering San Bernardino's early run and knotting the score at 15-15 by the 9:20 mark, and taking their first lead at 22-19 on a three-pointer with 5:09 showing on the clock. By the break, the visitors had opened up a 40-33 advantage.
Senior LeAndrew Knight (Lompoc, Calif.) nearly notched a first half double-double for the Coyotes, notching nine points and 10 boards.
Dominguez Hills grabbed their largest lead of the contest at 43-33 just 27 seconds into the second half, but the Yotes chipped away and tied the score at 50-50 when senior Jalen Flanagan (Oceanside, Calif.) converted a three-point play with 13:30 remaining.Â
The Yotes were never able to take the lead after knotting the score however, thanks to lights out second half shooting from the Toros. The visitors went 17-for-24 (70.8 percent) from the floor after halftime to help secure the win.
Four Coyotes finished the contest in double figures, led by reigning CCAA Player of the Week Chris Mitchell (Oceanside, Calif.) with 24 points. Senior Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.) posted 19 points, while Robinson (13 points, 10 boards) and Knight (11 points, 12 rebounds) posted double-doubles in the defeat.
The Coyotes will return to action on Thursday evening with a trip to Sonoma State. Tip-off between the Coyotes and Seawolves is slated for 7:30 p.m.
