SAN BERNARDINO, CA – After a statement of an opening weekend, the hard work of the Yotes squad is being nationally recognized. Coming off a No. 19 ranking to start the season, they have roared back and jumped to No. 9 in the AVCA poll this week. The Yotes also received two first place votes in the poll. The Yotes took down two nationally ranked opponents at the Yotes Classic Showcase, including the No. 3 MSU Denver Roadrunners. This new ranking pushes the Yotes to be the highest ranked CCAA competitor going into their second week of their non-conference schedule.
As if their AVCA ranking wasn't enough to solidify the Yotes as a dangerous national competitor this season, freshman
Trinity Sheridan and graduate student
Shira Lahav were both named to the Yotes Classic Showcase All-Tournament Team.
Sheridan, the tournament MVP, led the team in points/set (4.94) with a near identical stat line for kills/set (4.29). She had 73 kills and finished with 84.0 points in her opening weekend in The Den. Lahav came up with 60 digs throughout the weekend, leading the next closest Yote by 18 digs. She averaged 3.53 digs/set and had an almost perfect serve-receive percentage of .956.
