ARCATA, Calif. – Cal State San Bernardino's 10
th-ranked women's volleyball team struggled with a feisty Cal Poly Humboldt, rallying from behind in the first two sets and then exploding in the third set for a 3-0 sweep of the host Lumberjacks Saturday night.
CSUSB improved to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 in the CCAA while the 'Jacks slipped to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Yotes have dominated the matches between the two teams, upping the team's record against Humboldt to 30-4 dating back to 1993.
Jenna Patton, the senior middle blocker, paced the Yotes with a team-high nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage and four total blocks. Patton leads the CCAA in hitting percentage at .460. Junior outside hitter
Savannah Hoffmann posted eight kills in 18 attacks, hitting .389. Freshman OH
Trinity Sheridan had eight kills on .238 hitting.
UC Davis transfer Shira Lahay led both teams defensively with 20 digs for CSUSB. Setter
Marlee Nunley had 24 assists and four block assists.

The Yotes hit .312 for the match to just .063 for the Lumberjacks and forced Humboldt into 24 attack errors and seven receiving errors.
The third set may be remembered for the way in which CSUSB took over the match. It was close at 5-4 before the Yotes won six straight points to lead 11-4 on a solo block by Patton. Moments later, the Yotes ran off four straight points for an 18-6 lead on setter Nunley's service ace.
The Yotes closed out the match with three kills, two by Patton, to close out the set and the match 25-12. CSUSB won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22.
In the first set, Humboldt led 14-9 until CSUSB rallied to tie the set at 16-all on a kill by senior middle blocker
Taryn King. A service ace by sophomore setter Jayden Chormomud and back to back blocks by Patton assisted by Sheridan and Hoffmann, made it 19-16.
A combined block by Patton and Nunley followed by two kills by Patton upped the lead to 23-20. Nunley closed out the set with a kill.
After CSUSB took a 4-2 lead in the second set, the Lumberjacks got the lead at 8-7 and led by four at 15-11 and by three at 18-15 and the Yotes were still down three at 20-17. CSUSB tied the set at 20-20 on a Hoffmann kill, a Humboldt error and assisted blocks by Nunley and Patton.
Choromud served up another ace, Patton followed with a kill. After another attack error by the 'Jacks, King and Nunley blocked another attack to take the set 25-22.
"We look forward to returning home after a couple weeks on the road," Cherniss said.
