ROHNERT PARK, CA – Non-conference play came to an end for the Yotes on Saturday as they wrapped up the Seawolves Volleyball Classic with two more wins on their record. They will go into conference play with a 7-1 record.
Game 1
The Yotes held the lead for the entirety of the first set and would win it on an error by the Warriors. It was a competitive second set as Westmont took an early lead, but a kill from
Savannah Hoffmann would tie the game at eight. The Yotes would string together some points on a pair of errors, kills and an ace, but Westmont made a late push to regain the lead and take the second set.
A quick bounce back was all the Yotes needed. They won the final two sets in dominant fashion and had the stats to prove it.
The Yotes led the Warriors in nearly every category by the end of their four-set match.
Marlee Nunley leads the team in assists and was responsible for 33 of the 48 they had as a team.
Shira Lahav and
Kylie Thomas both put up seven respectively.
Trinity Sheridan dominated from the right side with 16 kills. She led the team in kills and had exactly double the amount of kills than her opponent across the net. Hoffmann and
Ashley Robinson both finished with 12 kills.
Lahav and
Taryn King stood out defensively. Lahav added 13 digs to her career total as a Yote which was enough to push her over the 100 mark with plenty of season still to go. King led the team in blocks with six, making her total so far this season 30.0 and leading the next nearest Yote by seven points.
Game 2
The dominating fashion of the Yotes was still apparent in their second game of the day. They would pick up the win against the Dominican Penguins in three straight sets. The Yotes showed just how deep their roster goes in this game as we saw some of the newer Yotes seizing their moment.
Allison Legates, freshman Middle Blocker from Los Altos, CA, opened the game with a block. She would get two more throughout the game and lead the team with three.
Kacie Pedersen put up nine kills, one kill shy of her season high she set last weekend in the teams win against then No. 3 MSU Denver. She was followed by Robinson (7) and
Allison Whiteman (7).
Nunley was tied with freshman Setter
Sierra Bernard with 11 assists. The freshman also had an ace and a dig in her debut as a Yote.
