Yotes Picked To Finish 3rd in CCAA Preseason Poll

SAN BERNARDINO, CA. - After a regional quarterfinal loss to end the 2022 season, the Yotes look to bounce back in a big way, beginning with their CCAA Preseason Poll ranking. The Yotes were picked to finish third out of 12 teams in the CCAA.

The 2023-24 squad will feature seven new recruits as well as a very experienced returning group. With over half of the squad having experienced the championship capacity of this program, they look to achieve new successes this upcoming season. Head Coach Kim Cherniss is looking forward to another season in the CCAA, stating, "It will be a very competitive year in the CCAA. Many teams return a majority, or all, of their starting lineup. We're looking forward to competing at the highest level we can."

They will be led by three returners, who were also named to the CCAA Preseason Watchlist.

Jenna Patton, a senior Middle Blocker from Rialto, CA was the second on the team last season in blocks with 89.0. She recorded a season-high 16 kills and 19 points versus the Broncos, had 200 kills on the season and had 102 digs on the defensive end. Patton earned a CCAA Offensive Player of the Week recognition and was also named All-CCAA Second Team.

Outside Hitter Ashley Robinson put up a great stat line in her sophomore season. The Tuscon, AZ native recorded 296 kills to average 3.02 kills/set with 179 digs, 22 of those coming in a single game against Stanislaus State. She led the Yotes with 333.5 points on the season and was recognized as an All-CCAA First Team student-athlete.

Marlee Nunley is the last standing member of the 2019 National Championship squad. As a junior, Nunley racked up the list of accolades, including being named the CCAA Setter of the Week (3x), All-CCAA Second Team and the 2022 CCAA Volleyball All-Tournament Team. Nunley put up a season-high 49 assists against San Francisco State to give her a final total of 886 on the season for a 8.28 assist/set average.

The Yotes will open their season as hosts for the 2023 Yotes Classic Showcase. Six of the top teams in the nation will hail to Coussoulis Arena for three days to partake in high-level competition prior to their regular season competition.
