Senior Day Sweep, Yotes Are Clinched for CCAA Tournament

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – With their spot in the CCAA Conference Tournament already secured, the Yotes suited up to celebrate Senior Day! As regular season play comes to a close, they highlighted their at-home play this season with two more wins to give them the 3-1 series win over the Lumberjacks.

Game 1: Yotes 1, Lumberjacks 0

Hayden Greene started it off early for the Yotes, hitting a leadoff single to get on base but was thrown out in an attempt to steal. Both squads would go back and forth, a double play by Arianna Chavarria to Tereise Tosi would end the third and keep the game scoreless.

In the fifth inning, Alyssa Martinez would hit a single before advancing to second on a sac bunt by Brooke Brazill. In her first appearance at the plate on senior day, Veronica Garza laid down a RBI single to right center to bring Martinez around to score and give the Yotes what would be their only run of the game.

The seniors showed out from a defensive standpoint as well. All three outs in the sixth inning were recorded by senior Kaylee Williamson.

In her second straight complete game shutout, Samantha Vargas sat the final three batters down in the seventh to secure the win.

Game 2: Yotes 2, Lumberjacks 1

The Yotes took the lead early again. Williamson singled down the left field line to bring Greene in from second base, putting the Yotes up 1-0.

The Lumberjacks were quick to avoid the shutout. On a single to right center, the Lumberjacks rounded the bases to tie the game at one.

Williamson's second hit of the game came on the very first pitch she saw in the third inning, but a groundout to third would quickly put an end to the inning and the game remained tied.

After a quick 1-2-3 inning by the Yotes, Alexis Aguado picked up a RBI with a go-ahead single that brought pinch runner Kyla Lowman in to score.

Vargas would return to the circle in the seventh inning where a lineout to first base would end the game and secure the Senior Day sweep for the Yotes.

With these last few wins, the Yotes have clinched a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2019 season!
