Dylan O'Connor turned in another dominant performance to lead CSUSB en route to his second CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.

O'Connor threw a 7-inning complete game shutout to lead the No. 7 Yotes over Cal State East Bay on Saturday, helping CSUSB to a 3-1 series win. CSUSB also won earlier for a four-win week to improve to 27-9 overall, 18-8 CCAA.

The junior right-hander allowed just three singles in his latest outing. O'Connor, who is from Tacoma, Wash., sat the first eight batters in order to start the game. After allowing two singles in the fourth, an error loaded the bases but he got a pop-up and a double play grounder to get out of the jam. O'Connor then cruised the rest of the way, retiring the final nine of 10 batters (only base runner was a walk) for the win.

O'Connor fanned nine and walked just one in his latest outing as he continues to lead the CCAA in strikeouts (61). His has yielded the third lowest opponents batting average of .194. He shares the lead in innings (54.2) and is tied for second with five wins.Â

Cal State San Bernardino is second in the CCAA standings and hosts leader No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay (22-9, 20-4 CCAA) this week. CSUMB has won a program-record 12 consecutive games.
Daryl Ruiz
Daryl Ruiz continues to hit and get on base as the CSUSB first baseman picks up his second CCAA Player of the Week nod.

Ruiz batted .611 with 11 hits in 18 at-bats and 25 plate appearances in five games last week. He scored eight times, drove in two runs and hit three doubles. Ruiz also drew seven walks and struck out just once. He posted a .778 slugging and .720 on-base percentage for an OPS of 1.498.

The left-handed junior from Corona now has at least two hits in six consecutive games with 18 multi-hit games this season. He was 9-for-16 in the four-game series at Cal State East Bay, helping the No. 7 Yotes to a 3-1 series win over the Pioneers.

After dropping Friday's opener in extra innings, CSUSB bounced back on Saturday to win both ends of the twinbill. In game one, with the score at 4-4, Ruiz led off the ninth with a single and scored the eventual game-winning run. He scored the first run in the nightcap which proved the only run the Yotes needed in a 5-0 win. Then in Sunday's finale, Ruiz went 2-for-3, walked three times, scored three times and drove in a run.

Ruiz is among CCAA leaders in nearly every offensive category. He ranks second with a 1.110 OPS, third in on-base percentage (.482) and fourth in slugging (.628). He leads with10 home runs and is tied for second in runs (38), fifth in hits (47), third in RBI (40) and shares the lead with 25 walks.

CSUSB will host the key match-up of the week as the Yotes welcome No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay. CSUMB is atop the standings at 22-9, 20-4 CCAA with a 12-game winning streak.
