SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The women's basketball team competed in the final two games of the season this past weekend. They split with their opponents, winning by a 10-point margin on Thursday night and losing by one point on Saturday afternoon. Their season was capped off with a senior ceremony prior to Saturday's game where the team celebrated their three seniors:
Mia Finnie,
Nikki Mayoral and
Tatianna Russell.
The Yotes started their final game strong and led for 95.3% of regulation time and held an 18-point lead over their opponents in the third quarter. The Warriors were determined to put up a fight in what was also their final game of the season. They went on an 11-point scoring run, shutting the Yotes out for five minutes, to bring them back within 10. It was a standoff in the final minutes of the game, each team trying to edge out the other. Two free throws by the Warriors tied the game at 63 with 18 seconds remaining in the game and one more made free throw with one second on the clock would give the Warriors the lead and the 64-63 win over the Yotes.
Senior forward
Mia Finnie recorded a double-double on senior day, marking her double-double in her CSUSB career. She put up 11 points and rebounds in the final showing of her collegiate career. She finishes her career at CSUSB with over 650 minutes, averaging 2.9 rebounds, 237 points and a free throw percentage of .552.
Nikki Mayoral had seven points and two rebounds, going 4-4 from the free throw line, a season-high. In her time as a Yote, she has an overall free throw percentage of .758 and has a total 116 made three-pointers.
Tatianna Russell finished her final career game with seven points and a season-high nine rebounds on the afternoon. As a Yote, Russell has racked up the accolades. During her sophomore season, she was ranked 2
nd in conference in blocked shots per game, 2
nd in the conference in blocked shot, 6
th in the conference in defensive rebounds per game, 8
th in the conference in rebounds per game and 11
th in the conference in rebounds. Russell finishes her career with just under 2,000 total minutes, 493 rebounds, and is 7th on the overall CSUSB women's basketball All-Time Records list for blocks during a season. She achieved this milestone when she recorded 42 blocks in the 2019-2020 season.
As a team, the 14-14 Yotes averaged 63.7 points per game, have 1,113 rebounds, 366 assists and 235 steals. They were led offensively by junior guard
Destiny Jackson who was putting up 13.4 points per game.
Mia Dufresne led the defense with rebounds per game (5.9) and blocks per game (1.2).
Samantha Henley and
Jaida Jackson both had a 3.0 average in assists per game.
