LOS ANGELES – Cal State San Bernardino will face off against rival Cal Poly Pomona at 5:30 p.m. Friday night in the Eagles Nest at Cal State L.A. in the semifinals of the 2023 CCAA Conference championship.

The Yotes, ranked No. 2 in the West Region of NCAA Division II and No. 9 in the nation, will be looking to extend their edge in the all-time series against the Broncos, leading them 47-28 in 75 meetings dating back to 1988.

CSUSB has won eight of the last 10 matchups with the Broncos. The Yotes won their first meeting this season, 3-2, in five sets.

The Yotes are the No. 1 seed in the tournament after winding up the regular conference season in a tie with No. 2 seed Cal State L.A. at 15-3. The Yotes are 22-4 on the season while the Broncos are 20-5 entering the semis and ranked No. 7 in the West Region and No. 23 in the nation.

Cal Poly Pomona, the fourth seed, polished off Sonoma State, the fifth seed, 3-0, Thursday night. Earlier, third-seeded San Francisco State swept the sixth seed, Cal State San Marcos, 3-0, and will face host Cal State L.A. at 3 p.m in their semifinal match.

The championship match will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Nest.

The Broncos are the defending CCAA Tournament champions, having beaten the Yotes 3-1 in the semifinals and then beating Sonoma State in the title match 3-1. Sonoma State won the inaugural conference tournament in 2015, defeating the Yotes, 3-2 in the title match.

CSUSB then reeled off five straight tournament titles through 2021, defeating the Broncos 3-1 for the 2018 conference crown and taking a five-set, 3-2 decision over the Broncos in the 2021 conference tourney.

The CCAA began crowning the tournament champion as the conference champion in 2015. Prior to that year, the winner of the CCAA's regular season schedule was declared the champion.
