Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal State San Bernardino dominated visiting Cal State San Marcos in CCAA conference women's volleyball Friday night, handing the Cougars their ninth loss of the season, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, before 334 fans in Coussoulis Arena.
The Yotes, ranked No. 14 in the nation in NCAA Div. II, improved to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Cougars are now 6-9 overall and 4-3 in the CCAA.
It was the second straight win for the Yotes who have won five of their last six matches and helped prepare them for the 75
th renewal of their rivalry with current CCAA co-leader Cal Poly Pomona at 5 p.m. Saturday at home.
The Broncos, ranked No. 13 in NCAA Div. II, were swept Thursday night at San Francisco State, 3-0, to fall to 13-2 on the season, 6-1 in the CCAA.
Against San Marcos, the Coyotes used a balanced attack and a smothering defense to improve their overall record against the Cougars to 14-1 all-time that now includes a streak of nine consecutive wins.
Senior
Taryn King, ranked No. 3 in the CCAA in blocks (1.12 per set) assisted on two blocks Friday night but hammered home nine kills in 12 attacks for an impressive .583 hitting percentage.
Ashley Robinson posted a match-high 12 kills on .258 hitting.
Trinity Sheridan had 10 kills on .350 hitting and
Jenna Patton chipped in six kills on .600 hitting to go with a solo block and three block assists.
CSUSB hit .340 for the match, converting 45 kills on 97 attacks with just 12 errors. In the second set, the Yotes had 20 kills in 30 attacks with just one error for an astounding .633 hitting percentage.
Senior setter
Marlee Nunley posted another double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
Shira Lahav, ranked No. 3 in the CCAA in digs, had a team high 11 to go with two service aces. Kacie Pederson contributed 10 of the team's 44 digs in the match.
For the Cougars, setter Tori Goff, ranked No. 3 in the CCAA with 9.25 assists per set, settled for just seven per set last night. She ranks No. 5 in the conference in service aces with 26, adding one more last night. Trinity Barr, ranked No. 5 in the CCAA in kills (3.35 per set), finished with just four kills last night on minus-.111 hitting. Alyssa Gurrola led the Cougars defense with five block assists.
