Box Score SAN BERNARDINO -- Visiting San Francisco State unleashed its big hitters and the conference's No. 1-ranked setter racked up 50 assists Thursday night but the 13th-ranked Yotes provided offensive power of their own and a defense that stifled the Gators when the chips were down  in a 3-1 CCAA home victory.

The Yotes who are now alone in second place at 7-2 in conference play (14-3 overall).

Trinity Sheridan put down 17 kills on .438 hitting with four block assists. CCAA player of the week Jenna Patton had eight kills in her third match in a row with no errors, and contributed a solo block and seven block assists. Savannah Hoffmann posted 10 kills on .259 hitting and Ashley Robinson notched eight kills, 10 digs and assisted on four blocks.

Yotes setter Marlee Nunley had a season-high 36 assists plus nine digs and four block assists and a personal best five service aces.

By winning 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-20, the Yotes extended their regular season home victory streak to 70 matches dating back to their last regular season loss on Sept. 12, 2015 to former CCAA rival UC San Diego. The win also extended the Yotes domination of Gators volleyball. CSUSB leads the all-time series 40-3, including the last nine in a row.

The Gators (10-7 overall, 6-3 in the CCAA) were looking to end that home win streak with a strong push from their top hitters. Tamiya Wilson matched Sheridan's 17 kills while Izzy Issak had 16 kills to go with a solo block and a block assist. Trinity Yates contributed 13 kills on 20 swings (.650 hit percentage). Kimberly DeBoer averaged 12-plus assists per set, above her conference leading average of 10.64 per set, and added 10 digs for a double-double.

The Yotes outhit the Gators .323 to .239, helped by the fact that the Gators committed 24 attack errors and 12 service errors and had just two total blocks to 13 total blocks for the Yotes.

"I'm very happy with our win tonight," said Head Coach Kim Cherniss. "Trinity Sheridan was fantastic on offense tonight. Taryn King and Jenna Patton were incredibly effective on defense at the net."

The first set with a tight one until the Yotes ran off four straight points to lead 21-16, a stretch that included a block by Patton and Robinson) then closed out the set. In the second set the Gators jumped off to a 9-3 lead on a kill and service ace by DeBoer. SFSU still led 12-6 on a kill by Rebecca Rendahl. The Yotes got to within one point, 16-15, on a Robinson kill, but Wilson nailed five kills down the stretch as the Gators took the set on Wilson's final kill of the set 25-23.

The third set was tight with leads of one or two points until the Yotes broke it open at 19-15 on a kill by Yotes reserve Allison Whiteman. After a kill by Wilson cut the lead to 19-16, the Yotes finished off the set with a kill by King, a bad set by SFSU, and four service aces by Nunley, including the final three points of the set.

The fourth set was another tight one, with the Gators leading by one or two points until the Yotes took the lead for good at 16-15 on a Patton's solo block of the Gators' Alhana Velasquez. Patton followed with a service ace. The Gators fought back to trail 21-20 on a kill by Yates. Patton and Nunley then combined at the net to block Issak two straight times. After a Gators timeout, Nunley made a kill of her own and Robinson served an ace on match point.

"We hope to have another good match at San Francisco on Saturday," Cherniss said.
