Robinson Completes Impressive Week as Yotes Fall Short to Cougars

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The CSUSB men's basketball team fell to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 98-85. With the loss, the Yotes fall to 15-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play. CSUSM, who had been nationally ranked to start the season, now sits one game behind the Yotes in the CCAA standings with an 11-3 conference record.

As hinted in the Cal State LA game recap on Thursday, Robby Robinson dominates both Cal State LA and Cal State San Marcos. In the four games he's played against those two opponents this season, the San Diego native has four double-doubles (one in each game) with a combined 63 points and 57 rebounds.  Saturday afternoon proved to be one of the best games of his collegiate career, as the redshirt junior scored a career-high 22 points while tying his career-high 16 rebounds. He also shot 6-for-7 (.857) from the floor and went 10-of-12 (.833) from the charity stripe.

Outside of Robinson, the Yotes did a good job at sharing the ball in terms of scoring. Elijah Hardy, Mahmoud Fofana, Eddie Davis, Darius Mickens, and Dontrell Shuler all scored in double-digits, each between 10 and 14 points.

The Cougars applied pressure the entire game, led by a 30-point performance from Greg Milton III. In addition to beating out the Yotes in every shooting category, CSUSM also capitalized on 17 points from turnovers.

CSUSB briefly held a two-point lead in the first three minutes after tip-off, then never once retook the lead from there on. Uncharacteristic of their offense this season, the Yotes were unable to keep up with the Cougars, falling behind as much as 24 points in the first half. CSUSM would ride that momentum through the rest of the game, finishing with a 98-85 win.
