First-Place Yotes Take Down Seawolves

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The CSUSB men's basketball team defeated Sonoma State on Thursday night by a score of 85-74, improving to 13-2 on the season. Entering the game, CSUSB had won seven straight games against SSU, with a 21-6 record dating back to 2009.

The second place Seawolves put up a fight against the first place Yotes in the opening half, neither gaining a lead more than seven points. Down 34-31 with five minutes on the clock, the Yotes went on a 12-7 run to close out the first half with a narrow 43-41 lead.

After an Eddie Davis dunk (pictured above), CSUSB's two leading scorers Brandon Knapper and Dontrell Shuler hit back-to-back treys to put the Yotes ahead. At the conclusion of the first half, Davis and Knapper led the Yotes with 11 points, while Shuler and Robby Robinson followed close behind with nine and eight respectively.

Within the first five minutes of the second half, four Yotes had reached double digit points in the game. A Sedrick Altman trey with 12:58 on the clock put the Yotes up 58-49, providing them with the largest lead of the night.

CSUSB maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, walking away with a 85-74 win.

In total, Knapper lead CSUSB with 22 points, while Robinson and Davis led the Yotes on the glass with eight rebounds each. The Yotes once again beat their opponents on the glass, outrebounding the Seawolves 40 to 30. With the win, they improve their win streak against the Seawolves to eight straight.
