SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Yotes created a substantial lead in game one that carried them to thier second win on of the series. In the game two, the Pioneers kept the game close eventually winning the second game, 6-4. CSUSB now stands, 2-1 in their series against the Cal St. East Bay Pioneers.
Lead pitcher for the Yotes in game one was
Andres Quinones who pitched six innings for 86 pitches collecting three strikeouts and six earned runs. The biggest hit of the game was by
Daryl Ruiz who hit a grand slam in the first inning for a four RBI. That wasn't Ruiz's only homer as he went on to hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning adding an RBI to his stat sheet.
Jake Borst also connected for a home run in the seventh inning for an RBI. CSUSB collected 15 hits, 12 RBIs, and had eight assists on 27 putouts. The Yotes won the first game of the day, 15-9.
In the second game, lead pitcher for CSUSB was
Raul Salazar who pitched six innings, for 78 pitches, six strikeouts, and four earned runs.
Kyle Csakan hit his 20
th home run on the season in third inning for an RBI, breaking the school home run record. Csakan led the Yotes in hits as he connected on three hits for one RBI.
Riley Parker collected two hits for a single RBI. CSUSB collected 12 hits, four RBIs, and 10 assists on 21 putouts. The game was tied heading into the seventh inning when the Pioneers scored two runs to win the game, 6-4.
"We had a great win in game one" said coach
Mike Nadeau. "The team was hitting really well and Quinones gave us just enough to get the win. Game two was a tough loss.
Raul Salazar was cruising and pitching well until the baseball gods came down, sprinklers. The big story of the day was
Kyle Csakan breaking the school home run record after hitting his 20th home run. Great achievement. We got one more to go."
The final homestand for the Yotes ends tomorrow with a final game that starts at 11 a.m. at Fiscalini Field. The game will be streamed on ccaanetwork.com.
