AZUSA, Calif. – The Yotes were unable to score in the first game, but game back with reinvigorated and won the second game in dominating fashion. CSUSB split the doubleheader against Azusa Pacific, 1-1.
In the first game lead pitcher for the Yotes was
Sofia Gombos who pitched for five innings and collected one strikeout. Only
Kelia Paragas and
Kaylee Williamson were able to connect for one hit during the entirety of the first game. CSUSB did keep the Cougars scoreless throught the first three innings. In the bottom of the third the Yotes had a double-play from a pop up to third base and an out on first base. Azusa Pacific took game one, 3-0.
In the second game of the doubleheader, with two batters on base,
Tereise Tosi hit a home run for three RBI's in the first inning. Williamson went on to homer in the fifth inning.
Samantha Vargas pitched three innings and collected three strikeouts. The Yotes collected 11 hits, eight RBI's and nine runs in the second game. CSUSB won, 9-2.
"We are getting better and better every time we step on the field" said coach
Dee Payan. "I'm really proud of how our team continues to fight through games. Really happy to see our offensive game come to life in game two. Everybody on our team played a significant role, it was such a team win."
CSUSB is scheduled to play their next doubleheader against Cal State East Bay on Friday, February 18
