Battle of the Packs, Yotes Top the Wolves in Final Game of 2022

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's basketball team defeated Western Oregon on Sunday afternoon, narrowly hanging on to win by a final score of 66-64. With the win, the Yotes improve to 7-4 on the season while WOU falls to 6-4.

In the final non-conference game of the season, and the final CSUSB event of the calendar year, the Yotes put up a fight against the visiting Western Oregon Wolves. After originally falling behind 16-4 in the first, the Yotes went on an 18-5 run to take a 22-21 lead part way through the second quarter. After some back-and-forth play, the two teams would finish the first half tied at 35-35.

CSUSB took command of the second half, maintaining the lead for nearly all of the third and fourth quarters. However, with 0:13 on the clock, WOU hit a fastbreak jumper to tie the game at 64-64 – bringing the game to even for the first time since halftime. With the game on the line, Samantha Henley fed a pass to Mia Dufresne in the paint who then hit a game-winning layup with two second on the clock. The Yotes would fend off the Wolves in the final seconds to secure the 66-64 win.

Dufresne and Destiny Jackson once again led the way for the Yotes' offense, each scoring 14 points. Dufresne continued her streak of impressive performances, this time gathering seven rebounds and four steals in addition to the game-winner.

Jaida Jackson and Tatianna Russell also scored double figures with 11 apiece, and Tori Guzman tied a season-high with eight points. Jackson, Russell, and Guzman led the Yotes beyond the arc, each making two treys in the game.
