INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The CSUSB women's volleyball team was selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament on Sunday night, marking their 22
nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Head Coach
Kim Cherniss and the Yotes have made it to every single regional since the 2000 season, capturing eight West Region titles while hosting an impressive 11 times along the way.
This year's regionals will be held on the campus of Western Washington in Bellingham, WA. The #16 Yotes will be the five seed in this year's tournament after putting together a 20-6 record while being nationally ranked for the entirety of the 2022 regular season. In fact, the Yotes have been nationally ranked in every single poll since the start of the 2017 season. CSUSB will face the number four seeded and nationally ranked #20 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in the opening match - set for this Thursday, November 17
th, at 12:00 PM.
The Yotes and the Broncos have already faced off three times this season. They first played on back-to-back nights early in October, which CSUSB won both matches by scores of 3-2 and 3-1. The rivals then met each other in the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament this past week in San Marcos, where CPP went on to win both the match and the tournament.
CSUSB will be led by All-CCAA First Team selections
Lydia Morohunfola and
Ashley Robinson, as well as All-CCAA Second Team selections
Makena Overbey,
Marlee Nunley, and
Jenna Patton.
Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, November 30
th – December 3
rd, in Seattle, WA.
