SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The CSUSB men's soccer team fell to Cal State San Marcos on Thursday afternoon, losing by a score of 0-2. With the loss, the Yotes conclude the season with an overall record of 5-5-7 (.500) and a conference record of 1-5-5 (.318). This is the sixth straight season that the Yotes have held an overall win percentage of .500 or higher.
The Yotes tied their season-high with 18 shots in the match, but to no avail. With six of the shots being on goal, all were saved by the CSUSM goalkeeper.
The offense was led by redshirt senior
Jeronimo Valdepena, who attempted a career-high six shots – doubling his previous career-high of three in a game.
Brian Castillo,
Nicklaus Sullivan,
Travis Babineau, and
Alexis Gomez all attempted multiple shots in the game as well, with none being able to go in.
The Cougars' two goals came in the 25
th and 53
rd minutes, giving them a 2-0 lead for most of the second half. After their second goal, the Yotes applied some pressure by outshooting the Cougars seven to one for the remainder of the game. But CSUSM's goalkeeper Jesus Mentado made four saves to preserve the lead and secure the shutout.
CSUSB's goalkeeper, John Samano, played all 90 minutes, recording two saves while allowing two goals.
