SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – CSUSB closed their home stand against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The No. 3 Yotes held an overall record of 15-7 against the Toros. Downing their 11
th opponent in a row, CSUSB won the battle, 74-71.
The Yotes started the game with a six-zero run against CSUDH. In the first half CSUSB out rebounded the Toros grabbing 27 rebounds against CSUDH's 21. With their 13 offensive rebounds they were able to score 17 second chance points. The Yotes battled in the paint scoring 32 points while the Toros scored 24 down low. There were six lead changes and five ties during the first half alone. CSUSB took the lead into halftime, 36-35.
In the second half the Yotes opened their lead. At five minutes in the half, CSUSB was up 68-56. The Yote attacked the basket reaching the free throw line 17 times, causing two CSUDH to foul out. The Toros found a way back and closed Yotes lead to 74-71. With 12.2 seconds left on the game CSUSB defense made the stop that won the game, 74-71.
"We always seem to have one possession games with Cal State Dominguez Hills and it was good to come out on the winning end of those games" said coach
Andy Newman. "I thought that was a fun and high level CCAA game, where both teams made some incredible plays. Just happy we came out on top. I am proud of our team's ability to stay focused in getting that final stop on that last possession of the game."
There were two Yotes that led the game in scoring
Darius Mickens and
Timmy Falls. Mickens scored 16 points, five rebounds and two steal. Falls also collected 16 points, and had two rebounds, and three steals.
Daytone Jennings nabbed another double-double with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and three steals.
Eddie Davis added 14 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.
CSUSB is scheduled to play their next game on Thursday, February 3
