Four Yotes Score Double Digits in Win Against Pioneers

CSU East Bay traveled to Coussoulis Arena to compete against No. 3 Yotes.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – After overcoming their biggest obstacle up to this point into the season, the No. 3 Yotes hosted CCAA opponent Cal State East Bay. CSUSB needed no time to warm up, as they took the win comfortably, 98-70.

The first half the Yotes were quick to take the lead into double digits, scoring 19 points in the first nine minutes. Brandon Knapper scored 19 points in the first half shooting at 53.8 percent from the field and 5 for 10 beyond the arch. CSUSB Dominated the boards collecting 18 rebounds against the Pioneers nine.

Darius Lubom was hot from three-point range connecting on three of four, shooting at 75 percent and 15 points. The Yote put the defensive pressure on CSUEB forcing eight turnovers and converting those into 16 points. CSUSB went to the locker rooms with the lead comfortably, 55-36.

In the second half the Yotes kept their momentum and did not skip a beat. CSUSB shot 42.8 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the three-point line. They continued to out rebound the Pioneers as the Yotes collected 23 rebounds against CSUEB's 15. CSUSB scored 17 second chance points and 25 points off of turnover in the second half alone. The Yotes ran with the victory, 98-70.

"It was great to see our guys share the ball so well offensively tonight" said coach Andy Newman. "This was one of our best performances on that side of the ball this year. Cal State East Bay has always had our number in Coussoulliss Arena over the past four years so, it was great to get that back on track."

Leading the Yotes in scoring was Brandon Knapper who grabbed 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Darius Mickens sealed a double-double ono the night with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists. Lubom also scored in double digits adding 17 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Last but certainly not least to reach double digits in points was Timmy Falls, who scored 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
