No. 6 Yotes Down Humboldt State In A Dunk Fest, 81-62

No. 6 Yotes look to continue their climb in CCAA and National rankings.

ARCATA, Calif. - Going into the game against Humboldt State, CSUSB holds an overall record of 15-10 against the Lumberjacks. The Yotes were quick to take the lead and sealed the win early against Humboldt State, 81-62.
 
In the first half the, CSUSB hit the first shot of the game. CSUSB would continue to expand on that lead hitting 50% from the three-point line. The Yotes out rebounded Humboldt State, 15-14. CSUSB never gave up the lead and held the largest lead by 14 points at one point in the first half.
 
The defensive effort from the Yotes forced the Lumberjacks to stumble 10 turnovers. CSUSB was able to score seven points from Humboldt States turnovers and added 10 points off the bench. More than half of the Yotes points were in the paint as they collected 24, and 16 of their first half points were fast break points.
 
Humboldt State put the pressure on CSUSB as they transitioned to a full court press. It would not be enough to slow down the Yotes, CSUSB took the lead into halftime, 42-29.
 
The second half the Yotes continued to expand the lead making it impossible for the Lumberjacks to chase them down. CSUSB dominated the boards collecting 21 rebounds scoring 19 second chance points. The Yotes scored an astounding 44 points from the paint and scored 14 points of the bench.
 
It began with a dunk by Eddie Davis in the second half that would lead to a newfound energy from the Yotes. Daytone Jennings then went for another four dunks that would be topped off by a dunk with 16 second on the clock by Darius Mickens. CSUSB closed the game with a dunkfest of five in the second half and six on the game. The Yotes downed the Lumberjacks, 81- 62.

"We are just really appreciative of the opportunity to play college basketball games during this crazy time" said coach Andrew Newman. "I thought we did a great job defensively tonight which ignited a lot of exciting fast break buckets. Really proud of our teams effort tonight."
 
Leading all players in scoring was Mickens who grabbed a double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist. Brandon Knapper scored 19 points, had three steals, and three assists. Also scoring big for the Yotes was Daytone Jennings who collected a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and had two blocks.
