Alexis Cardoza headlines the Academic All-America® Division II volleyball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cardoza is a repeat winner of the Academic All-American honor and the first Academic All-American of the Year in school history.
Cardoza is the recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NCAA Division II volleyball. A second team Academic All-America® choice in 2019, the Chino Hills, California, native is one of seven student-athletes to land on this year's first team.
Cardoza and the Yotes did not compete this past season. Since many teams either did not compete or played limited spring schedules, selections were made on career athletic achievements and academic accolades.
A psychology major with a 3.58 GPA, Cardoza was named the AVCA and D2CCA Division II Player of the Year after leading CSUSB to the 2019 national title. The Yotes were only the third undefeated national champion in Division II volleyball history as Cardoza was tabbed the NCAA championships' MVP after leading CSUSB to their first team national championship in school history.
The 2020 California Collegiate Athletic Association Female Athlete of the Year, Cardoza completed her 2019 season leading the league and ranking third in the nation in both kills (4.54) and points (5.17) per set. She did this while hitting .346 and adding 326 digs, 59 total blocks and 37 service aces. Cardoza played in all 112 sets during the 2019 NCAA championship season, notching 15 double-doubles. She compiled 20 or more kills on six occasions.
She earned back-to-back distinction as CCAA and the NCAA West Region Player of the Year as well in 2019 along with being a First Team All-American.
