The Yotes hosted CCAA opponent Chico State for a match in a different setting than usual, The Den. Although it was not familiar territory, it was still territory that belonged to the Yotes. CSUSB defending The Den, and took the win against the Wildcats, 62-59.
CSUSB would finish the game with a field goal percentage of 36.7 percent, and a three-point shooting percentage of 25.0 percent. The Yotes scored 32 points in the paint and capitalized on Chico's mistakes by scoring 16 points off of turnovers.
The lead was exchange for a total of nine times throughout the game and twice the score was tied. The score was tied for the last time in the fourth quarter with only six second on the clock when
Destiny Jackson went full speed for a fast break scoring the basket with an and-one. With the game on the line, Jackson hit her plus one free throw to take the lead and win, 62-59.
Leading in points for the Yotes was
Destiny Jackson who scored 19 points, and had four assists and two steals. Leading in rebounds for CSUSB was
Mia Dufresne who collected a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Kaelyn Blackwell tallied eight points and had three rebounds. Also, in the top-five scorers for the Yotes was
Tatianna Russell who collected seven points, seven rebounds, and one block. Closing out the top-five was
Samantha Henley who added six points, three steals, and three assists.
"We didn't give up our fight and picked up right where we left off from last game" said coach
Casandra Renno. "Our intensity and never die attitude was a tremendous breakthrough for us today."
The Yotes next competition is on Thursday, December 4th, against Stanislaus State at 1 p.m. back in Coussoulis Arena.
