Yotes Close Their Weekend Defeating the Wildcats

CSUSB won their final game in Seaside against the Wildcats.

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Yotes took the lead in the first half and even though the Wildcats came inching back, CSUSB took the game, 88-74. This gives the Yotes a 2-0 start on the season.
 
At the start of the first half, CSUSB was first to score and immediately took the lead and never gave it back. The Yotes scored 22 points in the paint and had eight points coming off the bench. CSUSB shot for an impressive 40.9% from the three-point range and 57.58% for field goals. Brandon Knapper ended the first half scoring a three pointer with two seconds on the clock, sending the Yotes into halftime with a lead of 17 points. The score was, 49-29 at halftime.
 
In the second half, CSUSB would continue to score big in the paint, collecting another 22 points. Central Washington did collected 13 points off of turnovers in the second half. The Yotes increased their field goal percentage, shooting 60% in the second half. CSUSB collected eight second chance points and 12 bench points. The Yotes won the game, 88-74.
 
Leading for CSUSB in points was Brandon Knapper who went 13 for 19 on field goals, and 6 for 10 behind the arc. Knapper scored 33 points, had two assists, and two rebounds. Darius Mickens put up double digits in points adding 17 to the scoreboard. Mickens also collected four rebounds and one assist. Eddie Davis finished the game with a double-double, scoring 14 points and collecting 11 rebounds.

"I am really excited for the result this weekend. Anytime you can start the season 2-0 against two quality teams you are happy" said coach Andy Newman. "We showed how good we can be when we play together and trust each other. We are going to enjoy this one tonight and then get back to work next week. We still have lots of room for improvement."
 
The Yotes next competition is on Wednesday, November 17th at 7:30 pm as they face the Point Loma Nazerene University Sea Lions in San Diego. Game will be live streamed on Stretch Internet.
