SEASIDE, Calif. – The Yotes open the season with a game against the Western Oregon University Wolves. This was the first time CSUSB played the Wolves and it turned out to be a close one. The Yotes took the win in overtime, 82-78.
In the first half the Yotes came out ready as they went on a 7-0 streak. CSUSB greatest lead in the first half was by 11 points. It would be turnovers that kept Western Oregon in the game as the Yotes had 17 turnovers against the Wolves 7. CSUSB led in points off the bench, tallying nine against Western Oregon's seven. The Yotes also scored big in the paint, scoring 32 of their 43 first half points. Going into halftime, CSUSB led 43-37.

The Yotes again gained an 11-point lead against the Wolves, but Western Oregon started to inch closer. With CSUSB in the lead and the scoreboard, 56-47, the Wolves went on a six-point run taking the score to, 56-53. For the remainder of the second half the score would be within two points and the lead exchanged three times. CSUSB went for 28 points in the second half and improved in turnovers with six. The Yotes went into overtime, 71-71.
CSUSB outscored Western Oregon University, 11-7 in overtime. It was free-throws with five seconds remaining in overtime that would seal the victory for the Yotes. In their season opener, the Yotes downed the Wolves, 82-78.
There was a three-way tie for most points score for the Yotes.
Eddie Davis,
Brandon Knapper, and
Daytone Jennings each scored 16 points. Knapper went three for six form the three-point line. Davis also had seven rebounds and two steals against the Wolves. Daytone went for the double-double as he collected 12 rebounds in addition to his 16 points. Also scoring in double-digits was
Darius Mickens who tallied 10 points.
The Yotes finished the game with 62 points in the paint. CSUSB had 12 fast break points and had 16 points come from the bench. The Yotes shot 40.4% from midrange and 28.6% from the three. On the free throw line, CSUSB finished at 42.9%.
