ARCATA – The No. 23 CSUSB Coyotes defeated Humboldt State on the road on Saturday, 94-72, completing a 2-0 road trip up north.
The Yotes led by 10 at halftime, 40-30, and put it away in the second half.
Jeremy Smith and
Jordan Mitchell each scored 21, with Smith dishing five assists and Mitchell getting six.
Andres Villa added 19 points with seven boards and
Daytone Jennings had a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards.
The Coyotes shot 51 percent, led on the glass, 43-34, and as always, led points in the paint 46-24. They added eight threes on 47 percent shooting and controlled the defensive end only allowing four second chance points.
The contest was back and forth early, but CSUSB exerted their will over the last 11 minutes of the first half. HSU got only as close as nine in the second half with the lead swelling to 28 twice.
CSUSB (19-4, 14-3 CCAA) are currently in sole possession of second place in the conference and host Chico State next Saturday, who sit one loss back, at 7:30 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
