SAN BERNARDINO – With a great first half, the CSUSB Yotes made it seven-straight wins with an 81-70 win over Cal State LA on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Coyotes (13-3, 8-2 CCAA) led 48-32 at the half and finished the half on a 17-11 run over the final six minutes to tack on six to their lead. Much of that was due to their 67 percent shooting from three with eight makes. The Yotes shot 64 percent from the field on the game, outgunning CSULA (9-7, 4-6 CCAA).
Shea Rax scored a career-high 26 with eight made threes on 10 attempts.
Andres Villa controlled the paint with 21 and
Daytone Jennings scored 16 with seven boards to lead the team.
Jeremy Smith dished eight assists and
Tyrell Henderson added five as the Yotes had 23 as a team.
"My teammates and coaches gave me the opportunity and I got going early," Rax said. "I'm comfortable in this role and ready to come off the bench and provide a push."
The Yotes led in the paint, 36-24, and even though the game got a little tighter late, they built a big enough lead to secure the win for the seventh-straight.
Number eight will need to come on the road as CSUSB travels to CSU San Marcos on Thursday for a 7:30 pm tip. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
