SAN MARCOS – The CSUSB Coyotes won their eighth-straight game on Thursday night as they defeated CSU San Marcos 88-80 on the road.
The Yotes (14-3, 9-2 CCAA) led 37-30 at the half and added one to their lead in the second half. For the third time this season, the Yotes had five players who scored in double figures.
Jeremy Smith led the way with 20 points and six assists with just three turnovers.
Daytone Jennings turned in a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyrell Henderson and
Jordan Mitchell each scored 15 points and
Shea Rax added 10.
"I am really proud of the way our guys stayed together and fought through Cal State San Marcos' runs," head coach
Andy Newman said. "They made some big shots back to back against us and it was nice to see our guys respond and gut out a tough road win."
The Yotes led CSUSM (8-9, 4-7 CCAA) wire-to-wire and by as much as 13 in the second half on two occasions. The Coyotes shot 52 percent in the game, including 67 percent in the second half. The Coyotes led on the glass, 41-31, and dominated the paint, 42-14.
CSUSB also pushed the pace, scoring 19 points in transition with 18 assists. They will now put their winning streak on the line on Saturday at UC San Diego at 8 pm on ESPN 3. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
