STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The No. 2 CSUSB Coyotes opened the season with a 3-0 win over West Alabama at the Texan Invitational on Thursday.
The Yotes took set one 25-21, set two, 28-26, and got rolling in set three, 25-16. Alexis Cardoza led the way with 14 kills and Sascha Dominique added 12, hitting .625. Lydia Morohunfola returned with seven kills and Moira Murphy and newcomer Stephanie Doak added five each.
Mehana Ma'a and Marlee Nunley shared the setter's duties, with 23 and 16 assists, respectively. Cardoza added 15 digs to her line and Morohunfola had two blocks. As a team CSUSB hit .319 and held West Alabama to .196, and served eight aces.
"We are glad to get our first win under our belt against a very good West Alabama team," head coach Kim Cherniss said. "Alexis provided a great performance in all facets of the game. Sascha was extremely efficient in the middle. Our two freshman setters had some great moments and showed the promise of what is to come from them as they continue to grow and develop."
