SEASIDE, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes came charging out of the gates at the CCAA Championships on Thursday, taking game one over San Francisco State, 9-3
The Yotes built that lead through five innings, highlighted by a grand slam by Haley Finn in the fifth. Finn had gotten the scoring started with a double in the first. Jamiana Gateb hit a solo shot in the third to go up 2-0. CSUSB produced a run in the fourth before Finn homered, a single from Claudia Lopez and wild pitch made it 9-3. The Yotes pounded the ball, getting 15 hits with Finn and Kianna Abellera recording three each. Lopez had two as did Dominique Walker. Kelia Paragas doubled and the Yotes made no errors in the field.
Kendra O'Cull was effective on the mound, scattering seven hits and Amanda Ramirez finished the final two innings allowing no runs on three hits.
"We feel loose and have nothing to lose," Gateb said. "We have beat every team here at some point this season, so no reason why we can't now," Finn added.
The Yotes will face Chico State tonight at 5 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
