Coyotes Take Two From Humboldt State

Dominate, then come back to win game two

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes swept a doubleheader over Humboldt State at home on Friday afternoon, in two very different fashions, 7-1 and 8-7.

In game one, Amanda Ramirez dominated on the mound for CSUSB, allowing just a single run and four hits in the complete-game effort.  The Yotes scored four runs in the fourth, with Sydney Kreimann and Claudia Lopez singling, and Morgan Ratliff doubling to drive home runs.  Haley Finn hit a two-run shot in the fifth and Lopez singled again to make it 7-1.

The Yotes cranked out 13 hits, with Dominique Walker going three-for-three, and Jamiana Gateb and Claudia Lopez getting two each.  Walker also doubled and stole a base.

In game two, CSUSB led 4-0 after one inning, with Samantha Vacko capping the inning with a two-RBI double.  Humboldt State came back and led 6-4 after four innings.  CSUSB regained the lead in the fifth as Ratliff singled.  HSU tied it in the seventh, but CSUSB won in the walkoff in the bottom half forcing the ball in play to bring in the run.

"I knew I needed to get the ball in play and I knew Claudia (Lopez) would put the pressure on and get home," Gateb said about the walkoff win.

Ramirez (11-6) earned two wins on the mound on the day, cooling the HSU attack in game two.  The teams are back at it at 10 am tomorrow with live stats on CSUSBathletics.com.
