SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Playing as the designated visiting team in their home park, the Coyotes were quite comfortable on Friday, smacking 16 hits to beat San Francisco State, 6-3.
Gabe Chavez, who went three-for-four with two doubles, doubled in the first inning and CSUSB led 2-0. In the third, Chavez and Shawn Porthan singled to make it 4-1. An error added another and Richard Castro drove in an insurance run in the eighth with a single.
Ryan Kurtz (1-0) started and didn't allow a hit through six innings, striking out eight. Zaine Mendoza, Andres Quinones, and Jackson Gilmore only allowed two hits between them. The Yotes also stole three bases and still left 13 on base. AJ Barraza also had three hits, and Carter Kimberly, Castro, and David Osuna all had two.
