SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes split with San Francisco State on Saturday, falling in game one 2-3, but taking game two 10-6 to win two of the first three in the series at Fiscalini Field.
In game one, the Yotes took a lead in the first as a run scored on a wild pitch, and got one back in the eighth as AJ Barraza doubled one home to pull within one, 2-3. Barraza led with two hits as Alan Vasquez scattered five hits allowing just two runs and Austyn Coleman allowed one hit out of the bullpen.
In game two, the Yotes scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Jason Nall singled up the middle to cap two runs in the first and Carter Kimberly and Alec Ceniceros singled home runs in the second. Kyle Csakan followed with a double to make it 5-0. Barraza and Kimberly drove in runs in the fifth, Nall singled another one home in the seventh and Csakan hit a solo shot in the same inning.
As a team the Yotes had 13 hits, with Kimberly and Christian Vargas taking bases. Gabe Chavez, Ceniceros, Csakan, Nall, and Shawn Porthan each had two hits and Blake Timm and Oscar Rauda combined to keep the Gators at bay on the mound.
The Coyotes (12-23, 9-21) have won three of their last four and will look to take the series finale at 11 am tomorrow. Link stats are on CSUSBathletics.com.
