SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes scored seven runs in the first four innings and won 7-5 in the series opener over CSU Monterey Bay on Friday night at Fiscalini Field.
Gabe Chavez, Richard Castro, and Alec Ceniceros all singled to bring home runs, with Ceniceros bringing home two, to make it 4-0 after one. Sergio Rey brought two home in the third with a single to left center and it was Chavez again in the fourth to score the seventh.
The Yotes outhit the Otters 8-6 with Chavez and Rey getting two each, while AJ Barraza doubled. Alan Vasquez got through five to earn the win while only allowing four hits with four K's. Austyn Coleman and Jackson Gilmore closed out the final two innings with Gilmore earning his fifth save.
"I just try to be consistent in every at bat," CCAA Batting Average Leader Gabe Chavez said. "Move guys over and bring them home when I have the chance."
