LA JOLLA, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes split at UC San Diego on Thursday, falling 1-2 in game one but run-ruling the No. 10 Tritons in game two, 10-0 in five innings.
In game two, the Yotes scored in all five innings, breaking it open with four runs in the third as Dominique Walker launched a two-run homer and Samantha Vacko and Morgan Ratliff both singled home runs. Sydney Kreimann singled one home in the first, and Ratliff brought another home with a single in the second. Kianna Abellera hit a solo shot in the fourth, Jamiana Gateb doubled home a run in the fifth and Haley Finn did the same.
All totaled, the Yotes had 15 hits, with Ratliff and Gateb getting three each, as Kelia Paragas also doubled. Kendra O'Cull didn't need much run support in the circle, allowing just three hits in the shutout win.
In the opener, UCSD took a 2-0 lead in the third, and Gateb singled one home in the fifth, but CSUSB left the tying run on second in the inning. The Yotes outhit the Tritons 8-5 in the game but left eight on base. Ratliff, Gateb, and Finn had two hits each. Amanda Ramirez scattered five hits and just the two runs.
CSUSB (25-17, 19-15 CCAA) will wrap the regular-season tomorrow with a doubleheader back at UCSD at 1 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
