CSUSB Splits Day One At TOC

Take game two in five innings

TURLOCK, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes split their first day at the Tournament of Champions on Friday morning at the Pedretti Sports Complex, falling in game one, 1-2 in eight innings to Western Washington, but defeating Saint Martin's 12-2 in five innings.

Against Western Washington, Amanda Ramirez (7-5) was outstanding for CSUSB, going all eight innings allowing just a single earned run.  The Yotes jumped ahead 1-0 in the third on an RBI-single from Dominique Walker, but left a runner on second in the inning.  The Warriors tied in the fifth and took the lead in the eighth.

The Yotes had six hits as a team, and left eight runners on base, but had no extra-base hits.  Walker led with two hits.

Against SMU, the Yotes scored 12 runs through the first four innings to force the mercy rule into effect.  Samantha Vacko doubled to plate two to cap a five-run first.  Kianna Abellera singled to make it 7-2 in the second and Jenna Shay doubled to finish off the fourth inning, 12-2.

The Yotes collected nine hits as a team, leaving just five on base, and stole four bases, with Morgan Ratliff taking three.  Kendra O'Cull (2-2) earned the win allowing no runs over three and two-thirds innings.

The tournament continues tomorrow as the Yotes (16-9) face MSU-Billings at 10 am and Concordia (OR) at 3 pm.  Live stats are on CSUSBathletics.com.s
