SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes let one get away late as they fell to Chico State in the series finale on Sunday at Fiscalini Field, 3-7.
The game was 1-2 heading into the eighth, as AJ Barraza had laced a single up the middle to score David Osuna in the seventh. The Wildcats scored five unearned runs in the eighth to put some distance before the Yotes scratched two back in the ninth.
Jeff Kross (1-2) pitched five innings for the Yotes, allowing just the two runs. Oscar Rauda closed the door in the eighth and worked through the ninth unscathed. Richard Castro had two hits for the Yotes, who had five on the day stranding seven runners.
CSUSB (9-15, 6-13 CCAA) will look to get back on the right track as they begin a four-game set at Stanislaus State next Friday at 7 pm.
