SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 20 CSUSB Coyotes split the day against CSU Monterey Bay at home on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 8-7 in walkoff fashion and dropping game two, 0-2.
In game one, Dominique Walker smoked a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded for the win. Singles from Morgan Ratliff, Sydney Kreimann, Jamiana Gateb, and Samantha Vacko from innings two through four put the Yotes up 7-2 heading into the fifth inning, where the Otters tied it.
Anissa Padilla (4-0) came in from the bullpen to allow just a single hit over the last two and two-thirds innings. As a team, the Yotes chipped away with 12 singles in the game, leaving nine runners.
"I had the opportunity a couple times to drive in the runs earlier in the game, but it was exciting to come through with the game on the line with that hit," Walker said.
In game two, the Yotes had six hits as a team, including doubles from Ratliff and Haley Finn, but could not get a run across, leaving seven on base. Padilla (4-1) was solid at the mound scattering six hits for just one earned run, as the Otters scored twice in the top of the seventh.
The Coyotes (12-5, 9-5 CCAA) head to Stanislaus State next weekend, for a Saturday and Sunday doubleheader beginning at 12 pm on Saturday. Live links will be on CSUSBathletics.com.
