SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes could not recover from the first three innings at Fiscalini Field on Friday night, falling to Chico State, 5-7.
The Wildcats scored seven runs through the first three innings, and the Coyotes shut the door from there. Two runs scored for the Yotes in the second and Gabe Chavez homered in the third. An RBI groundout in the fourth made it 4-7 and Jason Nall singled home the fifth run in the seventh.
Tyler Williams (1-5) bounced back from the first three innings to go seven, and Ryan Kurtz and Jackson Gilmore gave up no hits combined. David Osuna doubled for the Yotes, who had eight hits as a team and only left three men on base. Shawn Porthan joined Chavez with two hits.
The Coyotes (9-12, 6-10 CCAA) will host Chico State for a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 pm. Live stats are on CSUSBathletics.com.
