SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes defeated No. 7 Southern New Hampshire, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field. They followed that up with an 8-5 win over the Penman in the nightcap.
Blake Timm (2-0) set the tone on the mound for CSUSB in game one, going eight innings, allowing just one run on five hits. The Yotes scored in the bottom of the first to tie the game as Gabe Chavez singled up the middle. He did it again in the third to plate another and Ivan Ramos launched a two-run homer in the fifth to put the Yotes up 4-1. Chavez led the squad with two hits on the day.
SNH jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two, but Kyle Csakan got CSUSB back within one in the sixth with a three-run bomb to left. Garrett Ouellette then homered to right to tie the game. The Yotes jumped ahead 6-4 in the sixth on a Rylan Cratsenberg two-RBI single and an error allowed two more across in the eight.
Austyn Coleman (1-0) was effective out of the bullpen allowing just two hits in four and a third innings, while Noah Simon finished the final three innings allowing one hit as well to earn the save.
"We played well today and our guys never gave up," head coach Mike Nadeau said. "Blake Timm was huge for us, to go eight innings when our pitching was thin."
The Yotes (3-2) open up CCAA play on Friday at 6 pm at Cal State LA. Live links will be available at CSUSBatletics.com.
