SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes could not close the gap on Saturday afternoon, and fell, 88-97, to Stanislaus State.
Pregame the Yotes honored seniors Garrett Baggett, Justice Green, and Malik Rhodes, and as the game began Stanislaus starting making threes and never stopped, hitting 11 on the night in 22 attempts.
The Yotes, who were led in scoring by Baggett and Andres Villa with 18 each, did lead by three two minutes into the game, but late in the first half trailed and did not recover. Rhodes scored 16, Daytone Jennings added 14, and Green had 11, and the Yotes shot 55 percent. Stanislaus State in response shot 61.8 percent.
CSUSB got the lead down to eight twice in the second half, but could not climb any closer. They led on the glass, 34-21, and in the paint, 38-34. CSUSB (15-12, 11-10 CCAA) is still a win or some outside help away from qualifying for the CCAA Playoffs. They finish the regular season at 7:30 pm at Cal Poly Pomona next Saturday.
