SAN BERNARDINO – The No. 1 CSUSB Coyotes capped the first day of the Regional Championship on the CSUSB Campus on Thursday in style, with a 3-0 win over Central Washington.
The Yotes had some back and forth action, but took it 25-19, 25-19, 25-21. They absolutely dominated the net leading in blocks, 16-2.
Jalyn Hayes accounted for eight of those with
Lydia Morohunfola and
Mikaela Grove adding six each.
Alexis Cardoza led the attack with 15 kills,
Stephanie Doak had eight, and seven had kills. Cardoza hit .412 with just one error.
"I am really proud of our team and we have really relied on the strength of our unit as a whole," head coach
Kim Cherniss said.
The Yotes hit .324 and held CWU to .087, with an eight-kill advantage.
Marlee Nunley had 18 assists and two kills, and it was really a team effort for the Yotes.
"We really worked hard on winning the rally while we are in the rally," Hayes said. "We do that through great communication throughout the point."
The Coyotes will move onto face Alaska Anchorage tomorrow at 7:30 pm in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
