Casandra Renno picked up her first career win at CSUSB and it was in impressive fashion, as the Yotes handed Cal State East Bay their first CCAA loss on the road Thursday night, 62-59.
The Yotes used an explosive first quarter and turned a tied game at halftime into a three-point road victory. It was balanced across the board with five Yotes in double figures led by
LeAundra Walker-Brown with 11 points.
Tatianna Russell,
Kayla Bibb,
Tehya Burroughs, and
Ashlynn Sharp each scored 10 points. Bibb led the way with nine rebounds and Sharp was two-of-four from three.
"I am pleased with our overall energy and grit of not giving up," Renno said. "The team worked so hard for this one and they believed in what the game plan was. I am proud of our relentless effort tonight."
The Yotes made their living attacking the hoop and make 17-of-their-25 free throws. They turned 26 East Bay turnovers into 22 points. The Yotes shot 57 percent in the first quarter jumping out to a 19-14 lead. After the game ended up tied at 27 at half, and the Yotes led by as much as 10 in the third quarter and held off the Pioneers in the final frame.
