Yotes Upend Central Washington On The Road

Four in double figures for CSUSB

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The CSUSB Coyotes picked up a huge road win on Saturday night, winning at Central Washington, 80-71, in front of 1000+ in attendance.

The Yotes trailed by one at halftime, but used a fantastic second half to secure the nine-point win.  Jeremy Smith led the Yotes with 30 points, going nine-of-12 from the field, three-of-four from three, and nine-of-11 from the line.  Andres Villa added 13 points and Jordan Mitchell scored 12.  Daytone Jennings joined them with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.

The Yotes took the lead for good midway through the second half and held off CWU by a good margin to the finish.  The Coyotes shot 47 percent from the field, 38 percent from three, and dominated the glass, 46-29, leading to 12 second-chance points while allowing just four.

"This was an incredible win for us. CWU is a very talented team and extremely well coached," head coach Andy Newman said.  "We had to be at our best tonight and we were. Total team effort!  I knew we had a chance when I came into the last media timeout huddle and everybody had their arms around each other. They did all the coaching, owned the game, and then got it done on the floor. Really proud of our guys!"

The Coyotes return home with two West Region wins and will host Point Loma on Saturday at 2 pm in their home opener.  Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
