SAN BERNARDINO – The CSUSB Coyotes had a tough loss on Saturday afternoon in their home opener, falling to Point Loma 91-93.
The Yotes led for the majority of the game and led by as much as 18 in the first half on a three from
CJ Clark at the 9:47 mark. The Sea Lions were able to whittle the lead down and the Yotes led 53-47 at the half. Point Loma tied it in the second half, but CSUSB went back ahead by 14, 77-63, with 11:10 on the clock on a layup from
Daytone Jennings.
The Coyotes led by 10 with five minutes left in the game, but the Sea Lions finished on a 18-6 run in a game where the last team with the ball won the game.
Jeremy Smith had a double-double with 15 points and 13 assists, and six Yotes scored in double figures with Jennings (12),
Shea Rax (12),
Andres Villa (12),
Jordan Mitchell (16), and Clark (13).
Both teams shot the ball well, CSUSB at 57% and Point Loma at 56%. The Sea Lions made their living at the line with 26 made foul shots and three Yotes' big men fouled out. The Coyotes did have 24 assists as a team.
The Coyotes will head out on the road immediately for a 2 pm exhibition at Fresno State tomorrow.
