SAN BERNARDINO – The CSUSB Coyotes had a quality first half on Sunday in a 77-86 loss to UC San Diego at home, but could not make up the difference in the second frame.
The Yotes jumped ahead by four at the 7:46 mark of the first half, but lost some steam late in the half and trailed 36-39 at half. They could never quite get over the hump in the second half as the UCSD lead grew later in the period.
Daytone Jennings led CSUSB with 23 points and
Jeremy Smith scored 18.
Jordan Mitchell added 10 and
Andres Villa grabbed nine boards. Both teams scored the ball well in the game, but UCSD made 10 threes compared to five for CSUSB. The Coyotes controlled the glass, 41-33 which led to advantages of 16-7 in second-chance points and 38-30 in points in the pain.
The Yotes will host the non-conference CSUSB Thanksgiving Classic Friday and Saturday, as they host Texas A&M International on Friday and St. Katherine on Saturday, both at 7 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
